Still one of the funniest, most irreverant cop movies ever made

This was a staple of late-night TV in the 80s before cable tv really took over and i might have missed it if i hadn't been restricted to five channels (three local network affiliates, one local PBS affiliate and a UHF chan you couldn't get on nights when there was "weather"), but when you only have five choices, you end up watching a lot of movies you'd never have given a chance ... which ended up being great ... this was one of those diamonds in the rough that came from this experience ...

based on the true story of two new york city cops who thought they should make a difference rather than just go by the book, the super cops were unorthodox and relentless and the actual footage of them at the very start of the movie is telling, making an intense amount of drug busts in a focused area and thus putting dealers out of business ... they also were not restricted by the uniform and employed high-top Chuck Taylor All-star's instead of leather-soled uniform-issued shoes that weren't a mobile and slipped on blacktop, etc ... excellent idea and rubber-soled shoes are worn by all law enforcement these days ...

anyways, just rambling but this is a winner, still a good watch today ... lots of familiar, supporting actor faces from the 70s in this one too :)

take care
