Similarities to 'Thelma and Louise'

I love this damn movie! It is probably in my top 2 all-time for Spielberg, along with RAIDERS.

But have you ever thought about the similarities that this film - both emotionally and plot-driven - that this film shares with THELMA & LOUSIE?

I know the inciting incidents are different and the messages are vastly different but I was especially struck by the similarities between Harvey Keitel in "Thelma and Louise" and Ben Johnson in "The Sugarland Express."
