Nostalgia

As someone who grew up in the 1970's, one thing I love about movies like this is that they show the landscape of that time in beautiful Technicolor! You get to catch glimpses of a vintage Jack in the Box, all the various gas stations, other restaurants, etc.

Whatever you think of this movie otherwise, it is beautifully shot! And, I am watching a high-definition master on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) here in the U.S.

While we all know how famous it is that this was the first film where Spielberg and John Williams collaborated, we should remember that this is also the first where Spielberg and cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond collaborated, to magnificent effect!

I loved all the Old Hwy 90 and San Antonio locations. The south side of San Antonio back then wasn't some barrio like it is now, where they shot the stadium and drive in scenes. I don't know about the Jack in the Box, supposedly it was shot in Houston, or at least set there. And most Texans back then had that accent unless they were transfers from non-Southern states.
