Coffee

I remember seeing this TV Movie when I was a kid and the only thing that sticks in my mind was the scene where Barbara drinks the coffee straight from the can. I would love to see this movie again.

I was telling a friend about The Manitou, which led to him telling me about this movie. He mentioned exactly what you wrote about the coffee--the only thing he can recall from this movie as well! But he remembers Barbara digging through trash and actually eating coffee grounds. He was telling me all this, and actually had to excuse himself because it made him laugh so hard.

YES! I was about 7 or 8 when I saw this on TV! There are only two things that I remember about this movie from the 70's when I saw it (on an old b/w TV) and mainly it's the scene were she's tweeking for a caffine fix and spoons coffee right out of the jar like a kid eating peanut butter. At that age, I'd tasted coffee and didn't like it at all, so her compulsion for coffee really disturbed me.

The other part is the end where she leaves in a hypnotic state and wanders off into the woods. She eventually is joined by other hypnotised pregnant women who are all migrating towards some unknown location.

I'd really like to see that movie again. Written by Richard Mathason, a great novelist and screenwriter, I'm sure I can take more from the story now than I could as a child.

Funny, I only barely remember that scene. I was 11 in 1974 and what sticks out most in my memory is the progression of the main character's speed reading ability. At first she can speed read as you usually see it done, then she can scan the pages with a glance as she turns them, one right after the other. Soon she's at the library, "reading" by simply running her hands over the spines of the books as she walks down the aisles!

Yes, I remember seeing this movie when it was first broadcast (I was a teenager). Now, I'm going to run over to You Tube and watch again. I hope it's as good as I remember.

Aww, rats. It's no longer on YouTube.
