The Los Angeles Grindhouse Festival 2007

I just read on the Fangoria website that Quentin Tarantino is hosting this filmfest and the list of films showing includes something called "Stoner" (1974).

I searched this title on IMDb and came up lacking in an appropriate result.

Do you think they have misprinted the title and meant Stone?

If so, that would be fantastic! More people need to be exposed to this film!!! (Only 156 voters for a score of 6.0 on this site.)

I have loved Stone since I first (Beta-)videotaped it from Aussie TV in the early '80s (albeit with the Stone-thrashing finale cut) and then saw it uncut on rental video a short time later.

It's my second fave Australian film after Mad Max, which certainly seems to have been inspired by Harbutt's film - there's even a character named Bad Max in the earlier flick.

So, hopefully a whole new rediscovery is ahead for Stone!

Dammit!

After a bit of surfing I've discovered that it's not to be how I wished it to be...

The film in question is apparently this, directed by Feng Huang:
Tie jin gang da po zi yang guan (1974)
... aka A Man Called Stoner
... aka Hong Kong Hitman
... aka Stoner
... aka The Shrine of Ultimate Bliss (Hong Kong: English title)
... aka Tit gam gong daai poh chi yeung goon (Hong Kong: Cantonese title)

Apologies to anywho that may have been rejoicing as I was. Bummer!

There's every chance that "Stone" was featured in the festival, as QT, particularly recently has remarked on many occasions that it's his favourite Aussie film of the seventies. In a recent interview, he was saying he really wanted to locate a print of it to add to his 35mm collection.
