I went to the opening night of the film in Cairns (North Queensland) in 1974. It was in the Rex Theatre which had sling / hammock style seats made of timber and sacking. Sandy, the director, rode down the aisle and onto the stage on a trail bike (which was a bit of a disappointment) to join the sponsor, Rusty Rees, a local bike hero, and then introduced the movie.
I was there with a member of the Mossman M/C club who had come up from Sydney and been an extra in the movie. We were all rather ripped at the time so when the funeral scene came onto the screen he jumped up, pointed excitedly at the screen and yelled, "Thats, me! On the red Ducati!" while we tried to calm him down and pull him down into his seat. (Where are you Charles Noah?) Ever seen that particular scene? Impossible to pick out just one bike! Although we'd be able to do it now with freeze frame on DVDs!!
As for it being dated, you have to remember that at the time the Kwaka Z900 was the biggest road bike in Australia.
The Kawa 900 may have been the biggest road bike at thew time but that still didn't stop it from being denounced as "Jap crap" by the bikie leader in the film.
picked up a copy on DVD for $8.00 a couple of years ago at Parlea Markets, Parklea, Sydney, Australia. DVD seller sells genuine rare Australian and Overseas DVDs
I just purchased a copy of the two disc Special Edition Severin Films DVD of this fine flick at a local mom'n'pop alternative music store for twenty-eight bucks. It's got a wealth of great extras that include the theatrical thrailer, the retrospective documentary "Stone Forever," a making of doc, and an animated director's slide show gallery.
