Apparently, he didn't leave his missus for the french bird - they met years later when he became famous and had already left his missus by that time. The french bird ('Danielle')in "Stardust" is played by Ines Des Longchamps, and 'the missus' ('Jeanette') is played by Rosalind Ayres.
