did Jim kill the dog by giving it acid?

When Mike's dog is bloody and (apparently) dying it sounded like Jim said something like "sorry, I gave her a tab of acid", just before then saying that now they were "even". Did I hear that right? If so, it certainly spins the Jim character into a truly cruel & ruthless a-hole in my opinion.

Yes, Jim admits to giving the dog acid. What's not as clear to me is what caused the dog's wound. Did she walk into traffic or something? Like a lot of scenes in this film, that one involves telling when they should be showing instead.

Edit: Another thread on this board said the acid caused the dog to miscarry, but that doesn't explain the wounds to me. She had blood all over her back.

The dog was pregnant ("She's eating for nine") and Jim gives her a tab of acid as revenge for losing the boxing match. The dog miscarries ("She's not pregnant any more"), resulting in the blood and discharge. Presumably this got wiped over her.

Thankfully I've never witnessed miscarriage and have even less idea of what a dog's might look like. I'd say that's a convincing enough image of dog after aborting a load of puppies. I've just look at that scene again and there's no wound, it's the dog's behind with fake blood all over it, as it's lying away from the camera.

I agree that it's a seriously bloody evil thing to do, as to a much lesser degree was Mike's scheming to get rid of Jim's girlfriend. Mike's right when he says, "We deserve each other".
