Two Mikes??? Please Help!

Is Adam Faith's character, Mike, the same Mike Ringo Starr portrayed in "That'll Be the Day"?

Primarily, Ray Connolly wrote the character as one; his novels to accompany the movies depict Mike as one and the same character. However, it is feasible to treat 'Mike' as two separate characters due to the difference in portrayal by Messrs. Starr & Faith. When I view the films I tend to treat the character as two separate characters: one called 'Mike' (Ringo Starr from 'That'll be the Day') and one called 'Mike Menary' (Adam Faith from 'Stardust').

It is pretty hard to imagine the character Ringo played, who was dumber than a sack of hammers, getting to the stage where he could rub shoulders with multi millionaire media moguls. That character couldn't even successfully swindle a kid on a dodgem of 10 bob without ending up in hospital as a result.

I doubt any real thought went into these characterizations.
