Are this films similarities to Luc Besson's Nikita anything more than coincidence?
*female murderer caught by police
*highly skilled fighters
*saved from execution by secret police who wish to use to own ends
*sent on assassination missions
*betray the secret police

I'd have to agree. While I like Bessons films, I have noticed some striking similarities in his films, in other, much earlier films. Heavy Metal The Movie, for example, has a wraparound story stringing the vaarious tales together, that is almost totally IDENTICAL to the Fifth Element. So I'd say Besson has form for taking from other sources.
sharehow has Heavy Metal and The Fifth ELement got any similarities. Heavy Metal was an Anthology film that used the glowing ord to link each story. Fifth Element doesn't have multiple stories. it's one straight film. actually the only similarities is the first story of Heavy metal about the cab driver and the woman but he kills her in the end. That's where it ends...
