At the end of the film we find out that the Phantom gets away (as he was innocent), the inspector is promoted and his superior sent into an institution. But did the wife go to jail? What happened to her?
I don't think it's explained, but is this the general assumption - that she was sent down for it?

shareNothing happened to her. She went back to France with Charles. The only reason she stole the Pink Panther was to shake him out of his retirement and make him live again. It worked because after this he went back to his thieving ways.
