2 Questions-Lady Litton SPOILERS!

Warning: This message contains SPOILERS for those who haven't seen this film yet. For those who have I have 2 questions:

Since Lady Litton is revealed as the thief who stole the diamond at the beginning of the film, I have 2 questions:

1) Did Catherine Schell actually play the thief in the brilliantly filmed theft sequence after the opening credits?(I know we see her briefly in disguise in the pre-title teaser)?

2) What happened to Lady Litton at the end? Does she go to prison?

reply

No you can bet that was a stunt person performing that opening theft. And yes she goes to jail at the end.

1) I have always wanted to know this. There are three men credited with stunts. I have found pictures of all three and they are far too large to have been the thief. However, in the 70s it was not uncommon to go uncredited, especially as a double in only one sequence. But at least for the interior sequence I believe it was a woman. Watch the film again and pay close attention to how the thief moves and particularly the hands, if those were not a woman's hands, I'll eat my hat. In my imagination, it will always be her.

2) I disagree with jrs. In the end sequence, the Tour Guide tells the crowd of the fates of Clouseau, Dreyfus and Charles Lytton, but not Lady Lytton. Afterwards Clouseau speaks of one day catching the Phantom. From that, I'd say she did not go to prison.

On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?
