Homages to Casablanca

I have seen this movie many many times over the years. I had not seen it for a long time and recently rented. I never knew there were so many references to "Casablanca" in this film. The Fat Man character, the dude with the broken fingers reminds me of Peter Lorre's character, playing "A Kiss Is But a Kiss" in the background, and the "Here's looking at you, kid" lines. I also didn't see another thread here on this topic.

I like homages in films and this one is great, but it seems out of step here with the other PP films. Does anyone know why Blake Edwards did this? Were homages made in other PP films that I am missing? Was the entire Inspector Clouseau character based on Captain Louis Renault?

I noticed it too :)

Edwards is filming in North Africa; why wouldn't he do Casablanca jokes? Strikes Again has a James Bond-ish joke or two. They did a lot of that in the animated titles.

Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!
