I would expect this board to have a lot more threads....

I saw this movie yesterday and I enjoyed it. Definately not Anne Bancroft or Jack Lemmon's best but sweet, clever, and funny. The movie is timeless. People today go throught the same problems loosing a job, having no money, going insane, except this story took it in a comedic way. I laughed a couple of times especially because they mentioned the part of the city that I usede to live a few times. And the ending was great and realistic. Sure it isn't going to randomly snow but it was symbolic. I would expect a lot more threads on thisboard for a movie this fantastic and enjoyable.

Remember you have another hand:the first is to help yourself, the second is to help others.

Sadly, you pretty much have to be a film buff to know about this movie.

The ironic thing it is very timely these days.

Yup - certainly funnier and wittier and also more dramatically relevant than these Billy Wilder comedies Lemmon used to star in. Liked the sort of melancholly vibe Hamlisch´s score often lent to the film.

it's just so 70s. didn't like it. Goodbye girl still holds up I guess but not this one.

I'd expect more threads responding to a movie with such a strong team behind it -- Simon, Lemmon, Bancroft et al, all at the peaks of their careers -- turning in such a clunker. Not funny (those attempts at satirical news reports, for example..), shrill, annoying, labored, unpleasant, badly paced, oh and did I mention, not funny? Just a chore to sit through, but at least now I never have to again.
