Early model for SG1?

I think this show shares some of the dynamics of Stargate sg1 that would follow it. 4-5 person team, both male and female, with and outsider member from a warrior culture. They travel though a tunnel (high-speed underground train vs wormhole) to help human cultures at different levels of development. SG1 is more militaristic, but both were action shows. Given how long SG1 ran, I wonder if Planet Earth might have faired better than expected had it been given a chance.
