Cast of Remake

Who would you like to see?

Edward Norton as Swan?
Rainn Wilson as Beef?
Cillian Murphy as Winslow?

Ehh?

reply

David Bowie as SWAN
Justin Timberlake as WINSLOW
Marilyn Manson as BEEF
"Fergie" Ferguson as PHOENIX

David Bowie is way to old to play Swan. Remember, Swan sold his soul so he could stay young.

How about NO REMAKE! Let this great film be!

Winslow/Phantom : Crispin Glover
Phoenix : Leslie Feist AKA Feist
Swan : David Bowie
Beef : Rainn Wilson (I agree, scarpred)
Philbin : Meatloaf
The Juicy Fruits/The Beach Bums/The Undead : Panic! At The Disco (Would never happen...)

Those people could do it justice, but it would never EVER happen with that cast.
And as people have said before, the "emo" group thing for the band ensemble. Panic! At The Disco would work amazingly well in this...

I'm totally against remaking a movie that's already perfect, but I'm almost changing my mind because you said Crispin Glover! I absolutely LOVE this actor! Meatloaf and David Bowie are good choices too, and someone said Edward Norton, that's also a good idea. If you add Bruce Campbell and Jeffrey Combs then it's gonna be real cool! Glover, Campbell and Combs, the perfect trio! It'd be cool if some of the original actors were still in the movie but had different characters.

I want a cast that can sing and ACT.I don't want it to suck.I also think they should keep the song of the original, just changed them a little, and keep the stetic of the 70's.

Marilyn Manson as Winslow
Anne Hathaway as Phoenix
Ewan Mcgregor as beef
Macaulay Culkin as swan
The Juicy Fruits/The Beach Bums/The Undead : Panic! At The Disco (I agree with that)

Seriously, the casting of a Remake should be for up and comers and not already established stars. You need a good script for a start. And a talented band to sing those brillant Paul Williams classics.

reply

I agree with you. I think the only celebrity that might help the film would be Marilyn Manson as Beef. As for the others, they should be unknowns.

Richard O'Brien-Swan
Rob Zombie-Beef
Gerard Way-Winslow
Meatloaf-Philbin
Anne Hathaway-Phoenix

I agree with you completely on Young Mr. Way...but I'd move him to Swan. Remember: Swan has to be played by someone who is young: he hasn't aged in what, thirty-odd years? Fifty? (That plot point plays so much better now!) Plus, young Mr. Way is a HUGE POTP fan.

In-nay on Richard. Lovely man, but let's at least TRY to maintain a bit of a barrier...

I had just finished watching a video of Richard O'Brien on Youtube,and I thought,He'd be a great Swan,then AFTER I had posted on here,I thought,Wait a minute,he's WAY TOO OLD!!I didn't know Gerard was a fan of POTP.Hey,I know,he could play Swan,his brother Mikey could be Winslow!Add a whole new dimension to it,LOL.

and Panic at the Disco is far from a talented band and therefor should stay far away from this great film.

reply

Now while I think no remake can ever come close to the original of PotP, a new one "might" be at least interesting to see.. that being said..

For Winslow, I think Michael Shanks would be absolutely great. He has the nerdiness factor, he can also do the mean streak pretty well from what I've seen and on the plus side, he is cute (and yes I'm female).

Can he sing ?

I mean, I know they can always dub the voices, but I think it has much more impact if the actor in the role can actually sing the part as well.

reply

that's a very good question lol
I've not seen anything before where he sang but.. never know

Bare with me here but I think that a musical cast would be in order, or at the very least a professional acting cast made to mimic said musicians. I've always said that if I were to do a remake I would want the following cast...

MUSICIANS:

Billy Corgan as Swan: Notorious egomaniac and frontman of the recently revived Smashing Pumpkins, his trademark look would provide the perfect appearance for any rock god who's sold away his soul. He's charming, yet creepy and he has one of the most well recognized voices in modern and alternative rock.

Brian Warner as Winslow Leech/The Phantom: Brian Warner, also known as Marilyn Manson, knows all too well how easy it is for a desperate geek to turn into a monster for the sake of art. Portions of his appearance for the album "Golden Age of Grotesque" were supposedly inspired by De Palma's Phantom to boot, which lends to the idea that he is probably already familiar with the material.

Henry Rollins as Beef: Former frontman of Black Flag and Rollins Band, Henry Rollins knows all about being a big, beefy rock and roll icon. He's the perfect modern day match for the Beef character and he's got some acting experience to boot. Also, it would be amazing to see him play a flamboyant homosexual.

UNKNOWNS AND WOULD-BES:

Chris Penn as Philbin: What can I say? It would have the been the ideal choice for the modern day representation of Philbin. He was a chubby guy with a tough guy attitude and he was a damn good actor to boot. Unfortunately though, his time has since passed and the hopes of this casting call have passed as well.

??? as Pheonix: The one character I always seemed to neglect in my hypathetical casting situation. I've always kind of decided to go with whatever the most probable choice was at the time. Upon thinking of it, I'd go with Jennifer Connelly if she were younger or Megan Fox if she were older. Both actresses have their similarities to Harper, as there seems to be a Harper for all generations.

The Band (The Juicy Fruits, Beach Bums and Undeads: They would have to be currently unknown talent with the real musical diversity needed for a reoccurring band with constantly changing style. A group that is open to experimenting with different styles and direction and could perhaps have their careers launched by the film.

I like the idea of Cillian Murphy as Winslow, not bad actually.

reply

Cillian Murphy is great for Winslow in my opinion.
Billy Crudup could be a good Swan.

I was thinking Ricky Gervais for Philbin, but considering he can sing, maybe a hefty Beef? (Rainn is also a good idea for Beef though)

reply

Here's mine....

SWAN - Richard Gere
WINSLOW - Cillian Murphy
BEEF - Rainn Wilson
PHILBIN - Meat Loaf
PHOENIX - Anne Hathalway

reply

I HATE THE IDEA OF REMAKING THIS MOVIE!! Leave it alone!!

reply

Richard Gere as Swan? Swan sold his soul to stay young!

Yeah Cillian seems like he'd be an amazing Winslow.

reply

all I can think of right now is Anne Hathaway as Phoenix and Roger Bart as Beef(how amazing would that be?!)

reply

Why are you people so hell-bent on having Anne Hathaway play Phoenix? I'm sorry, but there is no way in Hell I can see that working. Anne Hathway is too...too...I can't think of the word; she doesn't have the spark and the spit-fire attitude Jessica Harper had. Truly, maybe this is just me, Jessica is the only one I can actually see playing Phoenix, because she did it so well.

As for Bowie - I love him dearly, and have many-a shrines dedicated to him, but the people are right. Swan was characterized by two things, his eternal youth being one of them. And while Bowie has aged rather gracefully, it just isn't gracefully enough.

The other thing Swan was characterized by was his height. I can't be the only one who would be SEVERELY disappointed with a tall Swan. Uhm, no?! You can't have that. That's like having Beef in a tuxedo - it would just be weird.

Also, someone said something about using up and comers, and I agree with that. Phantom is too much of a beloved movie for some hot Hollywood heavyweights requiring a 20 million dollar paycheck to come and skewer it waiting on that Oscar.

And then I saw Panic at the Disco being listed as being a good band. Intially, I said "No!", but the more I thought about it, the more I began to like the idea. Sure, I don't think they are very talented and they're annoying as all hell, but who knows?

Ugh, I'm done ranting. Continue.
