what was he originally saying?

When Frady meets Tucker in the marina, Tucker says to Frady : "You're a third-rate journalist from Oregon or wherever the hell you're from."
That's what we hear.
If you watch actor Daniels' lips closely, you can see that he is actually saying something else after 'you're a third-rate journalist...'
I can't make out what it was that he was originally saying before it was changed in post-production.
Anyone got any ideas?

Iowa?

I personally think he says Oregon, unless it's an official "goof" of sorts, but why would it be changed?
But i am not sure.

It's a looped line, all right but I am no lip reader. Most likely he named the name of the paper Frady worked for and then in editing the director decided to leave out the specifics, perhaps for legal clearance reasons or just to make the film seem more universal. The paper is never named but for him to be covering a campaign stop in Seattle from Oregon, he seems off his beat.

In any case, it probably is not significant. Maybe a holdover from the novel that slipped past the screenwriters. It's easier for a novelist to throw in the name of a real paper than for a screenwriter, as the legal department of a large studio usually prefers to scrub out things like that, but doesn't begin its work until a rough cut of the film is made. If it were a real paper, the studio doesn't want to be sued for implying that it's employees are third-rate.

I didn't notice his lips not matching, however I did notice that the audio quality changed when he said that line. It sounded like it was recorded in a studio instead of on the set.

Yeah, I noticed that too. He definitely did not say Oregon but I couldn't figure out what his lips said.

The people you idolize wouldn't like you.
