Watched it last night on TCM but was called away from the TV when they were making a getaway after Karen Black had mowed down 3 guys. When I returned a few minutes later Duvall was arranging her funeral!! How did she die? BTW I thought it was great to see Joe Don Baker and Sheree North working together again after doing "Charley Varick" the prior year--Now that was a GREAT movie!!

They were pulled over by fake cops on a remote stretch of mountain road, and when Macklin realizes it's a set-up, he and Cody shoot it out with them and another carload of Outfit guys, including Jake Menner. They kill'em all. As they pull away, they notice Bett dead from a stray round in the backseat, not unlike Nadine (Jacqueline Scott) in Charley Varrick, which was released the same year as The Outfit, not a year earlier.
Both terrific films, but Sheree North looked better in The Outfit. She was a good actress after they stopped trying to shoe-horn her into MM roles.

Three of my favorite "bad girls" in one movie: Sheree North, Joanna Cassidy (e.g. opposite Bruce Dern in "The Laughing Policeman") and Marie Windsor!
