Odessa assassin

I've bought it on DVD having loved it on the big screen all those years ago -well, wouldn't you know, as soon as it arrived in the post, what should be showing on Channel 5 last night? Answers on a postcard, please! I love both book and movie and agree with everyone who thinks that more character development plus less gratuitous violence actually makes for a more suspenseful movie.
Re my subject title -what's the name of the assassin who meets a sticky end at the printers?( Either the character's name or else his own actor name will do.) And is he the same one who follows Sigi into the lift and along the tunnel, on the day of her Christmas shopping? It certainly looks like the same man.

The actor was Klaus Lowitsch and yes he was the same man.

The character is Mackensen. He was a Waffen-SS veteran, recruited after the war by the ODESSA as a hit-man.

thanks for the info!

You got it! I recommend the novel, too, if you've never read it. It's a quick read, and there are some elements in the novel that didn't make it into the movie. That doesn't change the story, but it's fun to read the original story.
