There was a gay sex scene in the camp. At first I thought it might be Bert and Max, but Max was wooing his "little girl." So...what was that all about? Who were the two guys everyone were fearfully watching have sex?

sharei think it was just the film trying to be shocking. for a film in 1974 to depict gay sex was off the charts controversial. In fact, I doubt this happened in real Nazi camps seeing as they were vehemently anti-homosexual.
shareWas it necessarily gay sex? You never see the other person's face, and honestly it looks more like a corpse than a living human. It's pretty obviously anal, but isn't it equally as possible that he was raping a practically-dead female from behind? Or was I just not paying attention?

The interesting thing about that scene was all of the women watching, the opera music over it and that it's their memory of when he first "claimed" her by taking her away from the others. Certainly a lot to think about but on thing you don't have to think about is that there are two men having sex in that bed; two very much alive men. The "little spoon" is clearly pulling his pud. Now, you might ask what they were doing in that particular location- and if it was supposed to be an infirmary, and why Max was wearing the white coat, and a good question is who were they, but no need to ask if it was anything other than two men.

shareI don't think it was gay sex. I first thought that as well, but then noticed that all the prisoners cowering in the back of the room watching were female. Lucia is in the next bed. It's clearly a women's barracks. I think the victim just looked male because of the short stubby hair like the rest of them had.
shareNot understanding why people don't get this scene. Gay men were also sent to concentration camps along with Jews. The point was to show how little dignity the people at the camps had left and how they were all living to extremes and slowly going insane in order to survive. No privacy, no boundaries left. The people in the adjoining cots are watching and look terrified re: how desperate their lives have become.
