Ustinov or Finney?

Who is the better Poirot? Peter Ustinov or Albert Finney? I say Ustinov.

Finney was, up to that time, the best film Poirot (which isn't saying much). I'm not sure if Ustinov was even familiar with the
character.

Both did a good job of playing Poirot, but I also like Suchet.

Albert Finney.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Ustinov.

Finney did a great job but Ustinov's Poirot felt more likeable.

David Suchet nailed it.

Finney's performance was ridiculously bad and over the top.
Ustinov obviously played himself with a bit of an accent and no regard for Agatha Christis's description of the character or his mannerisms.

Finney and Ustinov were equally bad in different ways.

Finney, by a mile.

The difference in these two portrayals is that Finney actually acted and created a character totally unique and nothing like himself. Ustinov basically played himself with a French (Belgian) accent.

Finney was also undoubtedly aided by working with a great director, Sidney Lumet. Whereas Ustinov only got (for Death On The Nile) the workmanlike John Guillerman.
