Lee Purcell is simply gorgeous

Lee Purcell's beauty has always blown me away. It amazes me how she did not have a better career. She did not have much to do in this film except look nice, and she did a great job of that. I also loved her in an episode of the Rockford Files. She made Mr. Majestyk a better movie by her presence. I just wish she had a bigger role.

This movie didn't help her at all, really. Very good looking, but is just a foil of Nancy to make her look the better person.

Interesting, Wiley had a lot more to do in the novel than in the film.

It's been a few years since I read the book, but I thought her character had a bigger role.

I have to agree with the original poster about how beautiful she was in this. This was way before my time, so I'm not sure if I've seen her in anything else, will have to check.

I agree. Purcell is a stone-cold '70s fox like Barbara Carerra, only sexier. It is a shame she isn't better known, seeing as latino actresses are more popular today than they were 30 years ago. Best Bronson movie ever!

Lee Purcell is the anglo woman in Majestyk, not the Latina.

"What's the rumpus?"

reply

Oh, whoops? Are we referring to Frank Renda's companion? Nancy Chavez is definitely a fox in my book, but Lee Purcell is hot too.

How did this actress not have a bigger career? She is drop-dead gorgeous, and with the limited amount of lines she had to work with, it's apparent she could act too.

She sure was great eye candy in this movie. I fear though that model-like actresses are a dime a dozen so it won't necessarily grant you a big career.

As I recall, a problem for Lee Purcell at the time was that she was found to both look and SOUND a bit too much like...Jane Fonda.

"Star xeroxes" rarely get to be stars, too. There was an actress in the 90's named Monica Potter who looked a bit too much like Julia Roberts for her own good, despite dying her hair blonde in a lot of roles. Same problem.

reply

Exactly. Every time I saw Purcell in a movie, I'd think of Jane Fonda. I dug her in Big Wednesday but once again, she reminded me of 60s Jane in it.
