Day of the Jackal ripoff?

Edward Fox as the Jackal destroys one watermelon with a high powered rifle. Lerrieri and his heavies turn the machine guns on an entiure warehouse full of watermelons. Talk about over the top!
Were Mr Majestyk's creators inspired by the Day of the Jackal?

Are you being serious??

You're suggesting that Elmore Leonard saw The Day of the Jackal and was so impressed by the watermelon scene that he devised the whole story for this film just so a scene depicting the mass murder of melons could be committed to celluloid?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

Nice approach. I always thought there is a deeper meaning in this movie than we all thought ;)

Melon slaughter, subtle but effective.

Gallagher also liked the scene in Spartacus where the gladiator cavalry train by decapitating watermelons.

reply

Nah, he was a melon farmer, right? So they're destroying his crop - end of, I'd say!

reply

The melons had it coming.

I hate to think of all of that good wasted.

Also, the scene where Bronson punches a guy is a blatant rip-off of a scene in The Day Of The Jackal where Edward Fox punches a guy. And they got away with it!
