4x4 insanity...

This flick has some of the most insane off-road truck abuse in it. I wonder how many trucks they had to wreck to get all the shots completed.

yeah, great direction in those high speed sequences.

the ford pickup used was actually 2wd.

The standard Ford F-series truck with the twin I-beam axle of the 1970's, with the 351-cubic-inch V8, was one of the simplest and most rugged utility vehicles ever. They only used one truck!!!

reply

I'm not so sure about them using only one truck.

At the very end of the movie, you'll see a clip of the truck with no driver's side outside mirror, and the next shot, it's got full size mirrors on both doors. So, while it's possible they used only one truck for the stunt scenes, there was more than one "indestructable" Ford pickup used during the movie.

It's still a testimony to Ford trucks and their tolerance for abuse.

Any of you folks remember the tv ad for Ford pickups in the late 70s that used clips from MM? It was a great ad. Someday I'm going to paint my 92 F-150 pale yellow and print Majestyk Brand Melons on the doors.

Or I'll get a real life.

i was fortunate enough to own one of these trucks (within the past year)..it was a longbed 2 wd,dual tank with the GT 460 motor,72 model...the original add said it was "tough like a truck, rides like a car"...i was told to see this movie because of the tie in,but i must say i really cant imagine abusing the thing as much as they did in the movie! one of the smoothest riding trucks ever...amazing vehicle...but cost me $120.00 to go 80 miles...:)

If you're talking about the cost of gas only, at $3/gallon you would be getting 2 miles per gallon.

I remember the tv ad. They said the truckwas not modified in the movie.

Who cares? It was awesome! Worth a hundred trucks.

That was awesome. With him in the back, rolling around. He would of been ejected for sure!! LOL

reply

yeah, as much air as the truck gets especially when they break through the gate from the road, lol, there's no way he's not thrown at least 100 feet!

reply

Totally best part of the movie. I thought for a second the woman driving the truck might turn out to be working for the hit man and was trying to throw Majestyk out of the bed to his death. I like how he can casually load the gun through that mess. Classic movie!

reply

Yeah some of those off-road chases are impressive, especially considering things like the Ford truck not being modified at all.

reply

I sure remember the ad for the Ford™ truck and yes that memory stays with me to this day. That must have earned some serious PR for Ford trucks and even Ford Motors in general.
Oh and of course, Mr Majestyk is a great movie.

reply

Yeah, I remember those commercials that Ford ran using scenes from the movie. The truck was totally stock, and those jumps back then were not CGI. Impressive vehicles.

I used to own a 79 F-150 2WD. It was not that much different from the truck used in this film. I used to visit a co-worker who lived back in the woods about a mile and a half off the pavement. The so-called road to his house was more of a trail than a road. During bad weather he'd leave his vehicles at the gate and walk the mile and a half to his home. His road had holes in it that a truck could get hung up in when it was wet.

I visited him one day. I lived about 20 miles away from him. When I got out of my 79 Ford I was very amazed to see that I had laid my binoculars on the roof and had forgotten to bring them in with me. The binoculars rode up there for a mile and a half of rough bouncy trail then another 18 miles to my home over curvy and hilly blacktop roads.

Works like a truck drives like a car was a pretty good description of those trucks. If I'd had the space I would have held on to it instead of trading it in in 1988. It had 130,000 miles on it and it's engine never burned oil.
