McClain's Law (1981 tv show) based on McQ?

McQ lived on a boat. McQ was in his mid 60's. McQ was a police detective who became a P.I. to investigate the murder of his partner because the police are not doing enough. Later on McQ is reinstated as a detective.

McClain lived on a boat. Character was in his late 50's. Character was a former police detective who gets reinstated. McClain investiages the death of friend because the police are not doing enough.

Of course they both have last names starting with "Mc" and both the move and series were action based. It could just be coincidence but it always seemed like McClain's Law drew its inspiration from McQ.
