What car ?
I'm watching this movie just now and the guy with McQ calls it a "Green Hornet" . Is it a TransAm or something ?

share1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, I'm watching it too on Five! Strange seeing John Wayne in a 70's cop movie like Dirty Harry.
share5 are really super for John Wayne films - McQ and Brannigan over consecutive days... Gotta love it.
NOW TARZAN MAKE WAR!
Yeah , I eventually saw the maker "PONTIAC" on the back . Not a bad movie . Hadn't seen it for a while .
shareJust a point . Why was it called a Green Hornet ? Was it a limited edition or something ? I've been doing a bit of searching on Google but I keep coming back to this one car from McQ .
shareWhy was it called a Green Hornet ?
I assumed it was simply because of the fact the car was fast and green.
1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with a 455 cubic inch V8; Brewster Green color. Very nice ride.

I think it was in reference to the old "Green Hornet" comic strip and movie serial from the 40s, or maybe the TV series that may have been in reruns at the time. It was only a nickname the character gave the car, and not any special TA model.
shareThat car is the coolest!

The "Green Hornet" is a reference to the Plymouth Fury he drives in the climatic scene with the gun battle on the beach. The Plymouth Hornet was a high performance two door , or coupe for those overseas, version of the Fury/Belvedere. In the 70's and before that in the 60's, Ford, Chryslery, and GM took the high perfomance goodies of the muscle cars and packaged them into sedans/saloons for police use. You could actually go to a dealer and order a police package sedan that had all the parts other than what the police departments needed (radios, spot lights etc) and they were called sleepers because they looked like something your parents would drive, but the minute you stepped on the gas, the cars would get up and go leaving the unsuspecting behind.
