extravaganzas of its kind in the annals of film. What a waste of good material! To paraphrase a lyric by Oscar Hammerstein in a superior musical (done only a little more justice on screen than this one), "It's broad where a broad shouldn't be broad".

It could have been an episode of I Love Lucy entitled "Lucy makes a Bomb" in which Lucy decides to put on a show but can't hire Ethel as the sidekick because she is too beautiful and talented so she hires Bea Arthur instead.
