Geoffrey Lewis dubbed?

Certainly didn't sound like his own voice, also seemed out of sinc/sound in the scenes he was in.

Yeah.
Just picked this up after a podcast (GGTMC) recommendation.
And I had a flick through the first couple of chapters and noticed Lewis is badly dubbed by some guy who sounds like he smokes 100 cigars a day.

Never known Lewis to be dubbed before, very weird.

I noticed other actor's lines were obviously added later (mostly when they're back it to the camera) so perhaps the sound was poor on his scenes, or it was shot silent at the time, and Lewis could not/would not come back to re-dub it all later so they used someone else.

Like Harvey Keitel in "Saturn 3".

His voice WAS NOT DUBBED. Geoffrey Lewis is a character actor, and a damned good one at that. He can play collegians to southern white trash, and he has a very strong voice.

If you watch the film commentary, they say Lewis wanted to play the guy this way, that when Lewis comes to work, he comes 'to play.'

If you look at the performances that he was doing at this time: THE GREAT WALDO PEPPER, THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT, CULPEPPER CATTLE CORPORATION and HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, they are all different.

I know who Lewis is, thanks.

And IF...IF...he was not dubbed (and 'playing him like that' does not mean he was not dubbed! They could be on about his on-set/physical performance) by someone else, the dialogue track was obviously ADR'd badly later to mess up his performance and make it look like he was re-dubbed.

I thank you.

I didn't notice the dubbing, but if it happened, I suspect it was because it's harder to mike for outdoor shots.
