on the same day that salvatore maranzano was executed in his park ave offices there was talk of a nationwide purge of all of the old line "mustache petes".
this is pure nonsense that on record the night that maranzaro was cut down by luciano gunmen there were only a handful of gang related murders in regards to the rackets.
this was hardly "the night of the sicilian vespers".just something the press moved on with enthusiasm to make headlines

the true "night of the sicilian vespers" occurred in sicilia back in the late 1800's when organized clans of sicilian and there underground network uprooted the occupying french invaders wich revolted in many deaths to the french at the hands of qualified sicilian men of honor and there lupari.

this never happened in the u.s. just an urban legend.
