Underated Score

This score is gorgeous. It's heart-felt and quite moving, especially when Richard Kiley sings the title song.

The score is great. All the numbers are catchy.

Of all of them I think Little Prince is my favorite. The music and lyrics are very touching, and Richard Kiley had such a great voice-it was rich and clear, strong and expressive. If the ending wasn't already sad and moving enough this number just enhances the emotion and the power. It was just the best.

I read that the movie did get an Oscar nomination for Little Prince and won a Golden Globe for the score so that's good. That means the music did get attention it deserves.

Well, the score was by Lerner and Loewe, who in decades before had done "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot" and "Brigadoon" and even "Paint Your Wagon" (which had some good songs and came out in 1969 as a movie...five years ahead of The Little Prince.")

I need to do some research on Lerner and Loewe. Was The Little Prince their last collaboration? Did one of them die shortly thereafter?

Loewe's music was key here, and I would say that the music he wrote for Fosse's number and for Wilder's number and indeed for Kiley's clear, strong and sad title tune...great work.
