Dustin Hoffman Deserved A Oscar for Lenny

i was blown away

if this wasn't released in 1974 i think he would have won it

reply

I completely agree!! Hoffman was amazing as Bruce! I too was blown away. Great movie.

That, of course, was the notorious year where Art Carney (?) won the Oscar for "Harry and Tonto" over Hoffman, Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, and Albert Finney. It's hard to pick who should have won, but pretty easy to pick that it wasn't Carney.

Hoffman was great in "Lenny," but Pacino as Michael Corleone in II and Jack in "Chinatown" were legendary performances.

reply

i agree with what you are saying my vote would of went to pacino for the godfather but pacino has been ripped off before he should of won for

dog day afternoon
serpico
scarface
and justice for all
and also for glengary glenrose

reply

Hoffman was great, but I think Pacino should have won for The Godfather Part 2

Finney was nominated for "Murder on the Orient Express"--personally, I'd trade either of them (Carney and Finney)for Gene Hackman in "The Conversation"

Yeah, they're dead, they're--all messed up.

reply

Finney's great, but in MotOE he's ensemble character acting. the conversation, on the other hand, is a great film, while hackman's acting in it isn't his best work. the oscars are hilarious.

reply

Agreed! Quite possibly Hoffman's best performance ever. I saw it for the first time a few days ago.

He should have won it that year. Great performance.

"Did you make coffee...? Make it!"--Cheyenne.

reply

completely agree. this was perhaps the best performance he has ever given, along with midnight cowboy, he was spectacular in this movie.

reply

Agreed, a solid performance in an otherwise bland film.

When I'm gone I would like something to be named after me. A psychiatric disorder, for example.

reply

Ditto.

reply

He was amazing but I think it should have been Pacino.

reply

This.
