Cinematography
One of the most striking American films. It looks stunning throughout.
shareI agreed. I was in awe it was just beautiful.
shareI had to keep reminding myself that this was filmed in 1974! The editing is so tight and quick for the time. Every shot was so fantastic- leading the viewer to briefly believe one thing before quickly pulling off the veil. I can't believe it took me so long to see this movie.
shareOne word: Awe.
This movie summoned for me Soy Cuba, La Haine, and Manhattan; the black and white contrast was startling the entire way, absolutely eye-enslaving. Not to mention the jump-cut confessional interview scenes took me to Leaving Las Vegas and back to French New Wave---- I COULD NOT BELIEVE I WAS WATCHING SOMETHING THIS UNHEARD OF AND UNACCLAIMED. Finally, I know it probably sounds odd but most likely because of the biographical nature of the film I felt an irresistable familiarity to Taxi Driver. I mean it SCREAMED Taxi Driver.
Anyways, I had to say something on this film: the cinematography goes sadly overlooked, much less the movie and I have no idea why.
If Sandra Bullock can win an Oscar for 'The Blind Side' then ... ANYTHING ... is possible!
Check out the photos of Diane Arbus and Weegee. "Lenny" is like a moving version of those pictures.
shareAn inspired choice, somehow it heightens the depressing mood of the story and brings out the sleaziness of the joints and dive bars Lenny performed in.
This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.
