Oroville
The film was shot in Oroville California
north of Sacramento.
I was 14 when they shot this movie in Oroville, CA.
The town was quite proud of it then. My mom and Aunt are in the protestors where OJ shoots at them up by the train tracks. Richard came out of the old train depot they were using as a bus station after they filmed the part where he beats up Cameron Mitchell and I was standing there with my mom and Mr Burton came up to me and touched my hair and told me I was beautiful. I almost fainted. What I think i appreciate the most about this film is there are parts of town where they filmed(ie: the old courthouse and jail) that had to be torn down after the earthquake in 1975. That same jail and courthouse are where Ishi was housed when he was found near town in the 1900's.
Other films were also shot in Oroville bringing alot of famous names to town. I was 16 when Clint Eastwood came to film The Outlaw Josie Wales. That time I think I did faint. Saw him in the old Prospectors Village restaraunt which also has since been demolished. There were others as well. One I can not remeber the name of was about an dying truck driver, played by Henry Fonda. I can not remeber the name of that one. If you know it please tell me what it was. Thanks
I think it was called "The Grapes Of Wrath".
shareIf this had been filmed in the south during the summer or early fall, Burton probably would have died during filming from the effects of heat and humidity. Then again, we've got some medicinal moonshine I'm sure he would have loved.
