What a great cast!

Besidies the incomparable Richard Harris, the cast in this film is first rate.
Anthony Hopkins, Ian Holm, Freddie Jones, Roy Kinnear and the gorgeous Omar Sharif.
They are all excellent as they always are. Thank you, Richard Lester for this wonderful film.

Yep, one of the best movies of 1974 !!

Yea, I am watching it right now. Richard Harris, Omar, Hopkins, all upstaging each other with thier talent. It's spellbinding! Richard Harris gets my vote for "over-actor" in this one though.

I've always liked this movie, and watching tonight for the first time in years was a joy. I didn't remember the cast beyond Omar and Richard Harris, so it was great to see a young Tony Hopkins and Ian Holm. I also recognized a much younger Roshan Seth (the steward that saves the young boy), who 8 years later, with a few extra pounds, played Nehru in Gandhi.

I grant Richard Harris was a bit over-the-top, but given the cockiness essential to the character I think it was a necessary attitude.

Clifton James was a standout for me,(his best role?)

They also gave a small part to John Stride, which made me like this movie even more.

Tell you what I got on my side - the confidence of youth.

Ben Kingsley also has a small role as a steward what a juggernaught of a cast !!! Watching it now on tcm.

Incredible cinematography by Gerry Fisher - who also did Running on Empty, Highlander, and the best of the Exorcists, III.

Everyone is top notch. Most are scene stealers as well. The fellow working at the dograces...his minute screen time is all pure attention grabbing. "I do my work over seas...Foreign Office"

Ian Holm's son in this film looks so familiar. Does anyone know what else he is in?

reply

It's his real-life son Barnaby. He went on to play Lisa Harrow's son and protégé of Damien Thorn in The Final Conflict.

Three actors I like (besides those already mentioned)

Kenneth Colley, in a small role as a detective. Probably best known in the US as Admiral Piett in two Star Wars movies.

Michael Hordern, in a small uncredited role. A great actor not appearing many times in the US. Maybe best known here for a small role in the miniseries "Shogun."

Jack Watson, as Chief Engineer Mallicent. Great character actor you know you've seen somewhere.

Great cast but only a decent movie
