The last great adventure yarn from the old line Disney studio people

Produced by Winston Hibler and directed by the great Disney stalwart Robert Stevenson. The Island at the Top of the World puts alot of modern crap to shame. They don`t make them like this anymore.

I couldn't agree more!

Saw this in the theater as a kid and it still holds up today. Great high-adventure story telling from an era long since past!

Hear hear!

Such a simple and exciting yarn. Although the special effects are top-notch, they certainly aren't what this film is all about. If this was a book it would be described as a page turner. You just have to keep on watching to see what drama unfolds.

I watched it for the 1st time, a few nights ago. I wish we had more simple adventure movies like this now. I really like the whole 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, Fantastic Voyage etc, style movies.

It was one of the last old fashioned, Jules Verne type of adventures coming in an era where gritty dramas (the GODFATHER movies), grotesque horrors (THE EXORCIST, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE), big budget disaster flicks (THE TOWERING INFERNO) and popular, edgy anti-heroes (Dirty Harry), were now in the forefront. Ironically, the year this was released (1974), another one of its ilk, THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD also came to the screens and became quite successful, so there was still a little room for movie audiences, for these wild fantasy adventures (STAR WARS released in 1977, would sort of bring back that sense of old fashion story telling, but set in space).
