An interesting film... but why didn't the inmates just riot?

Seriously, there were originally six young inmates being held at bay by three middle-aged guards, each of whom were unarmed except for the one who occasionally carried a knife. Sure, Mark popped in once in a while, but he wasn't seen there as often. The inmates could have easily overpowered the guards during meal times.

Don't get me wrong; I did enjoy "House of Whipcord." The story was scary, the atmosphere was creepy, most of the acting was above par, and I actually felt for the victims. But I think Pete Walker should have added a larger staff to the prison to make it more believable.

I think part of what kept them in line is that they simply did NOT know who all was involved. Yes, they saw only the three guards BUT, they didn't know if the place was guarded elsewhere or what. They could have overpowered the other guards but the big questions is, who ELSE would come to the guard's rescue. Keep in mind that there were SEVERE consequences if the girls tried to leave or escape. I think that is another thing that kept them in place. I think the only thing on their mind was that they knew there were in the hands of severely unstable people and the best thing is to wait and do what they say and maybe they will be caught. Also, they didn't know if there were guns about.

Kinda like when people are held hostage or kidnapped, they simply obey and do what they are told in order to stay alive.

Anyway, at a couple of points, two of them did try to make a break for it, and look where it got them.

Two of them, yes... not all six. But I can see the points Euro has brought up.

Those are good points. Maybe if they had been there a little longer and gotten a feel for how many guards there were, though; I still think coming to that realization wasn't unfeasible given time.

Anne Marie and her cellmate could very easily have overpowered all the guards. when Bates comes into their cell they strangle her very easily. they could kill her or keep her tied up and wait for the next guard to come, then apprehend them and take the keys and free all the girls. obviously they weren't thinking straight since what they wanted to do was save the girl about to be hanged
