It seems like every single pretentious reviewer out there needs to throw out the term "the human condition" on every damn comment. For *beep* sake, not every movie is a "heart wrenching depiction of the human condition."

Absurdism, surrealism, mysticism, and nihilism are core themes in this movie. If you haven't studied these subjects, then yes this movie does seem pretentious and unnecessary.
The Holy Mountain does not strike me as nihilistic at all. I don't know that I understand it all, but Jodorowski seems to be a very spiritual person if the content of this film is any indication.

I don't think this film is about the human condition; compared to say, films by Bergman or Kieslowski. This film is more about the collective human race than individuality.
