Running time of Conversation Piece.

The IMDB gives the running time as 121 minutes, but the English-language Region 2 DVD runs only 97 minutes. Allowing for the PAL speed-up (25 frames per second instead of 24) the celluloid running time is about 101 minutes. Does any-one know what is missing from the DVD?

If it runs for 121 minutes then it's a NTSC-PAL abomination (ghosting whenever the camera moves, soft image, etc.)

British region 2 release has time incorrectly listed on box as 97 mins. Actual running time is 116 or 117, which I think is right allowing for PAL speedup. See DVD Times web review for details.

I've seen it being offered on eBay on an R1 double feature disc (with Choice of Weapons) and a running time of 77 or 80 minutes, depending on which ad you look at. It is possible 30 minutes has been cut?

Well, I answered my own question when I found the double feature DVD at my local library. The case says 77 min. yet it actually runs 121 min. It's the undubbed English language version too. But the sound was horribly muffled throughout. Normal viewing volume on my TV (from 0 to 65) is about 20 but I had to crank this up to 45-50 at times.

I didn't find it all that bad. I kinda liked Burt's surroundings and lifestyle.

The Italian 35 mm print I had, struck in 1983 run for 126 minutes, including opening and closing titles and "end of part one" and "part two" title cards.

THE 2012 BLU-RAY FROM RARO VIDEO IS 122 MINUTES.
IT IS FAB.

I will not fear. Fear is the mind killer.
