The GATSBY LOOK

Do you remember the GATSBY LOOK fashions that were a part of the publicity of this movie? What other movies had similar fashion related publicity?

I vaguely remember the fashion industry trying to interest people in 20's style fashions when the movie came out. I don't think they were terribly successful.

"Annie Hall" probably sold more new fashion than "Gatsby."

I remember two movies with Warren Beatty, the Bonnie and Clyde look and the Dick Tracey look.

The Ben Casey TV show had all of us running out to buy Nehru jackets. I had one that I treasured.

I seem to recall a lot of females dressing like Annie Hall after that film was released.

Aye, a lot of women wanted to look as ugly and frumpy as Diane Keaton did in that unfunny bore that did not deserve the Best Picture Oscar.

Yes, it was in all the magazines. A still photo of Mia dressed as Daisy appeared on the very first cover of "People" magazine.

Ralph Lauren claims to this day to have costumed the movie.

I still have my Russian-style fur hat (made with synthetic fur, even, so it still looks brand-new fifty years later) that I asked for as a Christmas present in the '60s, 'cause they were briefly in style after "Dr. Zhivago" came out.

I was a teenager and, oddly enough, never actually saw the movie until many years later.
