And I hate saying that because I really respect DiCaprio and love him as an actor but he didn't do it for me as Gatsby.

i agree. leo's voice seemed strange whereas redford is just using his normal accent. is there a reason leo sounds weird when he plays gatsby!?

Yes, Leo's Gatsby sounds weird because he's trying to sound like the old guy he spent years with sailing around the world. It's a poor kid's idea of what someone with "good breeding" sounds like. I thought it was an interesting choice.

Wow, couldn't disagree more. Just posted about the scene where he meets Daisy for the first time. Redford was wooden, dead, emotionless. A total stiff. Leo portrayed the nervousness, the anticipation and made the scene real.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

I felt DiCaprio's Gatsby was a fine representation but his performance was wasted since it was in a piece of crap dog of a film.

I never read the book but going by the films I think it's a matter or preference. Redford is understated, elegant, and played the character with great ease and authority. Leo on the other hand was outgoing, emotional and charismatic. Interestingly this is how I would also describe their acing styles overall. Two very different actors, two very different interpretations. Neither one bad, but perhaps it comes down to which one is closest to the gatspy portrayed in the book?
