Did Professor Miyajima Die?

the ending of this film always confuses me. we clearly see Prof. Miyajima, his son Masahiko & Interpol Agent Nanbara escape just moments before the Alien base blows up. the Prof.s, daughter Ikuko shouts ''my father''? and then Keisuke says, ''it's alright, your father has achieved a victory''! what exactly does that mean? that he sacrificed his life to defeat the evil aliens? and what happened to Interpol Agent Nanbara? he was with the prof. when the base exploded. we clearly see Masahiko alive & well at the end of the film. how did he escape if the prof. & agent didn't? can someone clear this up?

They survived, but a last sequence where we see them alive is missing in the international version.

wow....................I did not know this. Honestly for 25 years I thought that Miyajima died and that him and company did not make it out on time.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought is. I was always confused in the dubbed version when Keisuke said that as if he was a martyr like the OP said. And oddly enough, we don't see the professor ever again. Now I need to check out the original version again.

In the subtitled version I have, I didn't see an extra scenes. But the subtitle was different from the dub. Instead of saying the professor is a martyr of sorts, he says I'm sure he made it out. And I recall seeing one of the 3 men that made it out in the background when they go back to the temple at the end.
