why is this film unavailable?

DVD version out of print and selling for $80-100!!! I don't think any other Showa era film is in this state. Kind of a bummer as I bought my kid a King Caesar figure but can't show that kaiju in action.

You're a funny guy - but looks aren't everything.

This film is currently unavailable because TriStar and Sony, who held the distribution rights, lost their rights to this film back in 2005. Sony renewed their rights with the Heisei and Millennium films, and Toho sold the rights to some of the Showa films that Sony and TriStar distributed to Kraken Releasing, but this film and Son of Godzilla currently have no U.S. distributor.

You can buy a digital copy for $9.99 if you have the free vudu app. You can buy it, stream it to your TV, download it to your phone, and so on. I know it's not the same as owning the disc, but at least you're not spending $100. I was able to get the disc thru Netflix awhile back and use the vudu to digital app and get a digital copy for $2.00 but you have to have the physical disc that way.
