I'm bigger than US Steel!

Says the man who lives in a 1400 sq ft bungalow in Florida and eats tuna sandwiches while watching football games on a zenith. No security either!

Let's get serious here. While the house of the Woltz character in the first Godfather is a bit over the top for effect what was the reason to depict the great and power Hyman Roth as a typical retiree?

I guess his 1400sq ft bungalow was a ruse to keep the IRS off his ass. I'm sure he had mansions abroad (Cuba?) and planned to retire there.

What I can't figure out is why he would come back to the U.S. at that point.

I believe Roth was based on Meyer Lansky, who never lived too high above the middle class though he was worth hundreds of millions of dollars when he died. Google his Florida house and it looks very much like Roth's.

Lansky was very smart - never arrested I believe - and never flashed his wealth too much that I can recall. That's a good way to get the IRS and FBI after you. Look at what happened to his buddies Bugsy, Al Capone, and Lucky Luciano.
