Michael Corleone says hello

Why did Rosato say that while strangling Frankie ? Michael had nothing to do with it.

reply

I always wondered about that myself. It could be that they planned for the hit to fail so Frankie would betray Michael, but I doubt that.

reply

They wanted Frankie to think Michael had double crossed him, hence the reason why he was so willing to testify against him later.

reply

It looks like they intended to kill him. And so it doesn't matter if they say it to him since he would be dead.

reply

It was clearly a mistake by the writers/director.

reply

I'm pretty sure I remember the actor, Danny Aiello who played "Sal" in "Do the Right Thing", said on "Dinner for Five" that he improvised the line.

Here is with Charlie Rose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_QVt_JCS54

reply

Because mafia types always need to say something witty before their victims meet their terrible ends. At least that's the way it works in every other mafia film.

reply

To preface, Michael had nothing to do with the hit and as another poster incorrectly suggested, it was not a mistake by the writers and or Coppola.

It’s one thing to be whacked, it’s another thing to be whacked right after your assailant tells you that someone you love, admire and have had familial business relation ties to your entire life, is the orchestrator or your violent death.

In a nutshell, those words were said to break Frank’s heart before he was killed.
