Who killed the assassin's?

This had probably been discussed before but who killed the two assassins that fired the machine guns through Michael?s window?  I can?t see it being Fredo,  Lampone and Neri are absolutely loyal to Michael?so who else was in the compound?

reply

Some people have Said it was Rocco. But I don't think so. Some people have said the gunmen killed themselfs.

reply

Rocco's the main suspect for 2 reasons.

1. Michael emphasizes to Rocco for them to be taken alive even though he's already sure they are dead.

2. Rocco is sent on the suicide mission to kill Roth, which seems like a big risk for such a high level and important member of the organization.

Earlier in the film, when Michael appoints Tom as his successor, he points out that Lampone's and Neri's loyalties are based on financial reasons. He's essentially telling Tom that anyone can be bought.

reply

If it was Rocco, Roth would of saw it coming since he got shot by Rocco. Could of been Fredo?

reply

If not Rocco, then someone else responsible for security who was willing to sell Michael out to Roth.

reply

I always figured Fredo. Their bodies do turn up right outside his house, remember-- "right outside my window!" as Deanna shrieks. Why? Because the gunmen had to come back to report to Fredo. Rather than tell him the job is done, though, instead they're forced to tell their boss that they botched the hit, and Fredo is forced to quickly tie up the loose end.

reply

Not that I have any proof against that theory, but I can't see Fredo successfully murdering anyone.

I was just gonna post this question.....definitely seems unlikely freddo knocked them off.....maybe there was a 3rd guy who killed them and got away

reply

That REALLY leaves a loose thread...

Fredo is a panicky, not-well-put-together guy. I definitely can't see him executing a cold-blooded, premeditated murder. I can TOTALLY see him freaking out when the guys tell him the hit was botched and blowing them away on impulse, then freaking out even more when he realizes what's just happened. Hence the sloppiness of the bodies being found right outside his own bedroom.
