In the flashback scenes, why didn't we see Tom Hagen?

We know from the first movie that Vito found him as a homeless orphan in the streets when the latter was a preteen-early teen and adopted him which was around the time the flashback scenes ended. It would be perfect to have that as one of the last things happening and put him alongside Michael, Sonny and Fredo in the stairs shot as kids. Feels like an awfully missed opportunity and possibly even a plot hole?

Is Sonny really supposed to be 11-13 in the flashbacks? He seems about 7, 10 at the oldest

reply

I agree. He was too young in flashback scenes IMO.

Young Tom Hagen was in the movie. Those scenes were never released. The 1930s sequence was cut out for length reasons.

I think Sonny found Tom and brought him home. I'm not sure how old they were.
