did you know......huge controversy ?


that this film caused huge controversy due to is violence on its uk premire some 20 years or more ago that the home secatary was involved and it was pulled from the premiere and then after much debate shown a week later , never understood why

Perhaps you misread the article or it was misinformed. This wouldn't have been considered a violent film in the 1950's! Perhaps it was for it's subject matter of irresponsible gambling that caused the controversy?

I think both of you above here are talking about another film entirely. The UK Premiere was 20 years ago, from 2007? "The Gambler" came out in 1974. I can't imagine the film didn't premiere in the UK until the 1980s. There isn't really too much violence in a graphically detailed sense - it's a nauseatingly suspenseful film, but not close to being traditionally violent.

I cannot recall any controversy and it was shown on television regularly since the early 1980s.
