I definitely liked them, if thats' the question. Have not seen this one
so I cannot comment. The performance by Peter Cushing was the best so I
may buy this DVD for that reason. Curse and Revenge were the early favorites
with Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed and Created Woman second. Evil was
not one of my favorites. The Monster was rather dull. Bad copy of Karloff.
Horror was like an unrelated film. Copy of Curse.
Hope to see Monster from Hell.
The atmosphere made these movies and music blended well as no other horror genre.

I am a Hammer Head myself. Big fan of most of the series but Evil was disappointing to say the least

reply

EVIL did seem to be the unwieldy child of Hammer and Universal. However, EVIL did have some atmospheric sets/settings, even if the make-up was not up to par.

reply

EVIL is not too good, but the Creation scene is very nice.

love the Hammer Series frankenstein,, do me a favor list the 6,, i think i have 3 or 4, of them maybe 5, this film was a delight to watch

For your convenience, the 6 Cushing / Hammer Frankenstein films:

Curse of Frankenstein
Revenge of Frankenstein
Evil of Frankenstein (which is almost unrelated, just an excuse to finally get to use Universal's Jack Pierce makeup...sort of)
Frankenstein Created Woman (my own personal favorite)
Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell

Hammer also made "Horror of Frankenstein" with Ralph Bates, a sort of tongue-in-cheek retelling of the original story, but unrelated to the Cushing films.

I love them. super little movies. Mind you anything with Peter Cushing in has it's merits.

Anyone else think that David Prowse was made to look a bit like Charles Ogle's 1910 incarnation?

i think that the Hammer Frankenstein movies are great,, correct me if i'm wrong,, which i probably am,, but i think there are 10 or 11 in the series,, 5 early ones, and 5 or 6 of the latter ones.

You are wrong, there are six with Peter Cushing as detailed above and one with Ralph Bates.

I love all the hammer movies, especially the Frankenstein and Dracula series.

I loved the Massimo Girotti ones, but it looks like they was destroyed.

I thoroughly enjoyed 'Curse of Frankenstein' (1957). The first sequel, 'Revenge of Frankenstein' from 1958, was good, if not quite up to the high standards of the first film. 'Evil of Frankenstein' (1964) I found disappointing, and I am not a fan of 'Frankenstein created woman' (1967) either. However, I think 'Frankenstein must be detroyed' (1969) was a definite return to form.

I haven't seen either 'Horror of Frankenstein' (1970) or 'Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell' (1974).

The character of Frankenstein seems to change quite a bit in the series. The Baron commits a number of cold blooded murders in both 'Curse' and 'Must be Destroyed', but he is almost a sympathetic character in 'Evil' and 'Created Woman'.

I've been watching the six Peter Cushing Hammer Frankenstein films this October. The first one was the standard Shelley tale, but all the sequels have been very original, and I've been enjoying them more than I thought I would be. They are all about the Baron Frankenstein and his madness, while the Karloff movies just threw the Frankenstein monster into different scenarios. The Karloff movies attempted to make the monster heroic, but the Hammer movies make Baron Frankenstein more and more evil with each movie, as he follows his quest to bring back the Dead, transplant brains etc. All of this works on a deeper level, imagine the moment you woke up with your brain in a different body! 😨
