This was a darn funny movie....

...that just got funnier as it went.

I watched it yesterday for the very first time, and absolutely LOVED it. The cast and the performances are just perfect, and just loved the funny situations for which Barbra had to go through in order to get the money. It became instantly one of my most favorite comedies ever.

Dismissed this film for many years, due to negative reviews. I think many may have thought it was just another WHAT'S UP DOC? screwball type comedy and nothing new for Streisand. Had I seen it over a decade ago, I may have scorned it myself too. Was pleasantly surprised at how consistently funny and entertaining it was. Like the best comedies, you are sometimes not certain, what is coming around the corner. I may even prefer it to DOC.

Zany humour, that was more cute and infectious than over the top, clever gags and dialogue. Loved the incognito sequence and subway scenes with the dog. Streisand comes over as genuine, funny, sexy, charming, (if somewhat shrill) and her loving relationship with Pete, (Sarrazin), was very believable. I found the final scene in the apartment unexpectedly moving and could sense why Pete loved Henry so much.

I saw this in Boston when it premiered in 1973; the audience was laughing their "lily white ____" off. And I do prefer over the more 'sophisticated' WUP

Not surprised. The film didn't attempt to be anything other, than what is was....in other words "unpretentious". I find WUD a little tiresome and un-involving in parts.

It opened up US summer 74' I think. Did they preview about 6 months before for audience reaction I wonder?

I was mistaken, 1974
