How's the DVD?

I saw this film in the theatre about a year-and-a-half ago, and the print was pristine and gorgeous. Does anyone know what the DVD is like? I've heard complaints that it's dark and muddy.

I bought it today and watched it. I got the 4box with Salo, in Holland, with Dutch subtitles.
I think its excellent quality, taken from the negative.
Sound a bit unbalanced, too loud/not loud enough.
But what a film.
I think his best.

What's the runtime of your DVD version?

I saw the Finnish DVD version. It runs only 125 minutes (25 fps).

According to the literature, the original version lasts 148 min 3 sec, but the Finnish Film Censory Board examined in 1974 another cut that lasts 155:53. It had 16 min 16 sec cuts and still was rated K-18.

The Criterion Collection has plans to release the entire trilogy, so the film quality on those should be excellent. I don't think they have set an official release date yet.

How certain is this Criterion release? It's the first time I hear of it.

May 2012 now...still hasn't happened

Well it happened eventually. I haven't watched it yet, got it on Barnes & Nobles half price sale, wish I bought Solo too, next time.

I have purchased and watched the Criterion collection which includes 3 of Pasolini's pictures. The quality is quite good for all three.
